We're Here

So it has been a wild 48 hours. We arrived in Daegu around 9:30am on December 31st. I have to say the journey here was not near as bad as it sounded. Korean Air had AMAZING service. On the 17 hour flight from Toronto to Seoul the flight attendants were non stop. Hot towels, snacks, meals, toothbrushes, toy bags for children...you name it and they had it covered. Between snacks and meals Britt and I manged to get some sleep. When we arrived in Seoul at 4am we had about 3 hours of time to kill, so we hit up the McDonald's for some "western" food. We also met a guy who is working with the same company which was great. Us foreigners really stick out. In the airport the cleaning staff were thrilled over Britt and I. From Seoul we flew to Daegu (35 minute flight). Once in Daegu (where we are currently staying for the week) the company picked us up and has been more than welcoming. We were taken to the office to use phone/ Internet. Than to the managers house for coffee, and out to eat.
We are staying at a "Love Motel" which is pretty much a place where all Korean's come to have affairs. You drive in under a car wash type curtain which is for "privacy". Other then the reputation it is a great spot. Internet, flat screen TV, heated floor, king size bed, water cooler, clean, and VERY cheap. These Love Motels are only 25-30$ Cdn a night.
Last night being New Years Eve here we were taken out for a "Korean" meal. Again the service was amazing and the meal was delicious. We had very thin shaved pork which is brought to the table raw and you cook it yourself on a table top grill. It is served with many side dishes, roasted garlic, kimchi (spicy cabbage), salad, Korean mushrooms, and a few sauces for dipping. We also had our first shot of "Soju" Korean liquor, which is similar to watered down vodka. Being New Years Eve we hit up a couple of bars in Daegu, very fun and full of English speaking people. Even the music was the latest hits from home. We have already met a lot of great people who are working with us, and other people who work in the area.
Today we spent the morning walking around down town Daegu. Just doing some sight seeing, and browsing in the shops. The amount of shoe stores here is unreal...and best part they all come in my size. This evening we start our first day of training, which is just observing classes. We will have the weekend off, and spend it here in Daegu. We will finish training on Wednesday and then head to our apartment in Gumi. Which we have heard is brand new and very nice. It will be nice to get set up and unpacked. Currently we are living out of a suitcases (which mine have been vacuum sealed and I don't want to open). We have seemed to adjust very well to the time difference. We have been on the go since we got here, so I think the lack of down time has been a good help with jet lag.
Stay tuned for pictures, Britt and I have been doing a great job documenting the journey. When I get a chance to upload I will be sure to do so.
